What is LST
Low Stress Training
Low stress training (LST) is a cultivation technique used by growers to manipulate the growth pattern of plants without causing significant stress or damage. Unlike high stress training methods such as topping or pruning, which involve removing parts of the plant, LST involves gently bending and tying down branches to encourage horizontal growth and promote an even canopy. By training the plant in this manner, growers can optimize light exposure, increase bud production, and improve overall yield and quality.
The goal of low stress training is to create a more uniform and efficient use of grow space, allowing for better light penetration and airflow throughout the canopy. This technique is particularly useful for indoor growers or those with limited space, as it helps maximize the yield potential of each plant while minimizing the risk of overcrowding and shading.
To perform low stress training, growers typically start when the plant is still young and flexible. Using soft ties or plant training clips, branches are gently bent and secured to the sides of the container or grow space, encouraging lateral growth and preventing vertical stretching. As the plant continues to grow, additional branches may be trained and tied down to maintain an even canopy and promote bud development at multiple sites.
